Air India has unveiled The Maharaja Lounge, its new flagship lounge at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, marking a significant step in the airline’s ongoing transformation. The space sets a new benchmark for premium travel experiences, combining refined comfort with the warmth of Indian hospitality.
Reflecting Air India’s refreshed branding and design philosophy, The Maharaja Lounge merges timeless elegance with modern sophistication. The space celebrates the airline’s rich heritage while offering contemporary luxury, serving as the first of several lounges the carrier aims to introduce across key airports in India and abroad. Beginning from February 16, 2026, the lounge will welcome First and Business Class travelers, Maharaja Club Gold and Platinum members, and Star Alliance Gold passengers.
Created by global design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), the lounge’s aesthetic features premium materials, soft lighting, and bespoke furnishings. Works of art throughout the lounge add an authentic touch, telling visual stories of India’s culture and craftsmanship.
Thoughtfully designed spaces
The lounge offers multiple zones tailored to suit varied traveler moods—quiet corners for peace and relaxation, and livelier spaces for work or social interaction.
Highlights include:
- The Aviator’s Bar: A stylish, speakeasy-inspired bar showcasing handpicked wines and whiskies. Its design nods to J.R.D. Tata’s historic 1932 Karachi–Bombay flight, with a ceiling modeled after the Puss Moth aircraft’s propeller.
- The Globetrotter’s Study: A cozy work and reading space fitted with a curated collection of books, high-speed Wi-Fi, and ample charging stations—perfect for reading, relaxing, or getting work done in transit.
- Serenity Area: A tranquil retreat featuring comfortable recliners, ideal for short naps or quiet rest.
- Crystal Bar: The crown jewel of the First Class section, this elegant bar blends modern luxury with subtle Indian motifs, serving champagnes and signature cocktails under soft, shimmering light.
- Tarmac View Area: Overlooking the runway, this dining and lounge zone offers a unique opportunity to wine and dine while enjoying captivating airfield views.
- Sleep Suites: Designed exclusively for First Class travelers, these suites offer restful pre-flight sleep complemented by personalized morning refreshments.
Elevated dining and service
Dining at The Maharaja Lounge is built around variety and personalization. Guests can choose from an array of Indian and international cuisines, including live cooking stations and an innovative “Beverage on Wheels” service—where mixologists create cocktails tableside, each drink inspired by Indian flavors or Air India’s heritage.
In a tribute to India’s long-standing love for tea, Air India has also launched a Tea Programme, offering freshly brewed teas served with light snacks and treats from an elegantly crafted trolley.
Small details, lasting impressions
To add a personal touch, guests will also find exclusive Maharaja-themed postcards they can keep as souvenirs—an homage to the airline’s most beloved symbol.
Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson described the opening as a milestone in the airline’s transformation, saying, “The Maharaja Lounge at Delhi Airport embodies the new Air India experience—modern yet rooted in Indian warmth. It’s the first of many as we continue expanding premium lounges across our network to set new standards in comfort and hospitality.”
