Flight Cancellations
Passengers are protected under EU flight delay and cancellation regulations when departing from an EU airport, regardless of the airline, or when flying with an EU carrier to an EU airport.
If your flight is cancelled, you are entitled to either:
-
An alternative flight to your destination, or
-
A full refund, which includes the cost of any return flight.
If you choose an alternative flight, you may select to travel as soon as possible or at a later date convenient for you. Choosing a later flight may also make you eligible for care and assistance.
Care and assistance generally include:
-
Meals and refreshments
-
Access to communication, such as reimbursed phone calls or internet usage
-
Accommodation, if an overnight stay is necessary
Airlines may provide vouchers for these services at the airport. If you arrange accommodation independently, retain your receipts to claim reimbursement later.
For flights outside the EU, passenger rights may differ, and it is advisable to contact the airline directly.
Flight Delays
For EU flights delayed over five hours, passengers have the right to:
-
Request a refund if they no longer wish to travel
-
Receive a refund for any unused portions of the booking, such as return flights
-
Return to the departure airport if part of the journey has already been completed
Please note that choosing a refund generally means you will no longer be entitled to additional care and assistance from the airline.
Compensation
In most cases, additional compensation is not provided for delays or cancellations caused by severe weather, such as snow.
However, passengers may consider filing a claim if:
-
They are prevented from flying due to snow, but other flights are operating on the same route
Airlines are not required to compensate passengers if they notify of the delay or cancellation at least two weeks in advance.
