Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) has announced that its Doha Metro and Lusail Tram networks are fully prepared to welcome fans attending the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar 2025 Finals, set to take place from December 1 to 18, 2025.

To accommodate the expected surge in passengers, both the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram will extend service hours on days with late matches, ensuring fans can return home conveniently after the events. The extended hours also apply to the Metrolink and MetroExpress services. Additionally, Park and Ride facilities will be available at selected stations, allowing fans to park their vehicles and continue their journey via public transport.

However, due to nearby match venues, the Park and Ride service at Education City will not be available on match days, and the Lusail QNB station Park and Ride will be closed throughout the tournament. Instead, fans can use the Park and Ride facility at Qatar University.

In response to the high demand during the tournament, Qatar Rail will deploy six-car trains on the Red Line and ensure that a full fleet of 110 trains is in operation during peak hours to maintain smooth passenger flow. Dedicated maintenance teams have been stationed across the network to address any potential issues quickly, and stations have been upgraded to accommodate the increased number of visitors.

To help guide fans during the tournament, Qatar Rail has installed additional wayfinding signage at key metro stations linked to the stadiums and deployed trained staff to assist passengers, including those with disabilities. Event teams will be stationed at high-footfall stations and stadiums, providing support and running dedicated ticketing desks to handle the expected demand.

The 2025 FIFA Arab Cup will be held across six stadiums: Lusail, Ahmad bin Ali, Al Bayt, Education City, Khalifa International, and Stadium 974. Five of these stadiums are within walking distance of the nearest metro station, including Lusail Stadium via Lusail QNB Station and Education City Stadium via Education City Station. Al Bayt Stadium will be connected by a dedicated shuttle bus service from Lusail QNB Station.

The FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar 2025 finals, scheduled for December 10, 13, and 17, will take place at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium.

For Lusail Tram services, the Orange Line will operate only between Legtaifiya and Al Wessil stations, while the Pink Line will run as usual. The Turquoise Line will be temporarily out of service due to safety requirements around Lusail Stadium and Lusail Boulevard. During the T100 Triathlon event, held from December 10 to 14, Pink Line services will operate only between Legtaifiya and Tarfat South station.

In addition, a 24/7 customer contact center will provide continuous support to residents and visitors. Fans can access information through Qatar Rail’s Customer Service Centre at 105, via WhatsApp at 44433105, or through the Qatar Rail mobile app.

To enhance fan safety and convenience, Qatar Rail advises travelers to plan their trips in advance, arrive early at stations, and follow guidance from customer service staff. Real-time service updates will be displayed on digital screens throughout the stations and trains during the tournament.

The first group of Sri Lankan pilgrims travelling for Hajj 2026 has arrived in Saudi Arabia, officially marking the beginning of this year’s pilgrimage operations for the island nation.

A contingent of 325 pilgrims landed at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah on Saturday, May 2, where they were received by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ameer Ajwad, along with Acting Consul General Mafusa Lafir and other officials.

Representatives from the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Jeddah, Saudi-based Hajj service provider Rehlat Wa Manafe, and Nusuk Hajj operations also attended the reception to assist pilgrims with arrival procedures and logistical arrangements.

Speaking during the welcome ceremony, Ambassador Ajwad highlighted the spiritual importance of the Hajj pilgrimage and conveyed his best wishes to the pilgrims embarking on the sacred journey.

He also expressed gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Mohammed bin Salman for the extensive preparations and facilities provided by Saudi authorities to support millions of pilgrims visiting the Kingdom from around the world.

The ambassador assured the pilgrims that the Sri Lankan Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate General in Jeddah would remain available throughout the pilgrimage season to provide assistance and ensure a safe and smooth Hajj experience.

Saudi Arabia is expected to host approximately 3,500 pilgrims from Sri Lanka during the 2026 Hajj season. The arrangements are being coordinated through cooperation between the Sri Lanka Hajj Mission, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the designated Saudi service provider, and local travel agencies.

Saudi Arabia has begun receiving the first wave of international pilgrims under the Makkah Route initiative, as flights from multiple countries arrived in the Kingdom on Saturday ahead of the annual Hajj season.

The first aircraft carrying Pakistani beneficiaries of the program landed at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah after departing from Jinnah International Airport in Karachi. Pakistan has been allocated a total Hajj quota of 179,210 pilgrims this year, with approximately 118,000 places reserved under the government scheme and the remainder managed by private tour operators.

Officials, including Sindh Governor Nehal Hashmi, attended the departure ceremony. According to the Sindh Directorate of Hajj, 160 pilgrims were sent off with prayers and well wishes.

On the same day, a separate flight carrying Bangladeshi pilgrims arrived at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. The pilgrims were seen off by Tarique Rahman and Saudi Ambassador Abdullah bin Abiyah, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Flights under the initiative also departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia and Ankara Esenboga Airport in Türkiye, with both arriving in Madinah, reflecting the continued expansion of the program.

Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Passports confirmed it has deployed advanced technologies and specialized personnel across air, land, and sea entry points to ensure efficient processing and high service standards for arriving pilgrims throughout the Hajj season.

Meanwhile, the first group of Indian pilgrims was welcomed at Madinah airport by Ambassador Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan and Consul General Fahad Ahmed Khan Suri, along with senior Saudi and Indian officials. The ambassador also reviewed airport facilities and met volunteers assisting pilgrims.

The Makkah Route initiative, implemented by the Saudi Ministry of Interior, is now in its eighth year and has expanded to 17 departure points across 10 countries. As part of the Pilgrim Experience Program under Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, the initiative has recently been extended to include Senegal and Brunei Darussalam, in addition to Morocco, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Türkiye, Côte d’Ivoire, and the Maldives.

The program aims to simplify travel for pilgrims by completing key entry procedures in their home countries, including electronic visa issuance, immigration clearance, and health verification. Luggage is also pre-coded and sorted according to accommodation arrangements in Saudi Arabia, enabling pilgrims to proceed directly to transport upon arrival without waiting at baggage claim areas.

Authorities said the initiative is carried out in coordination with multiple government entities, including the ministries of foreign affairs, health, and Hajj and Umrah. Since its launch in 2017, more than 1.25 million pilgrims have benefited from the service.
