The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) announced that Qatar Airways has successfully activated Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) within its digital infrastructure, marking a key milestone in advancing Qatar’s national digital ecosystem. The initiative, supported by the CRA, aims to accelerate IPv6 adoption across key sectors in the country.
IPv6, the latest version of the Internet Protocol, enables vastly more unique IP addresses than its predecessor and plays a critical role in developing next-generation communications networks.
As the lead entity of the IPv6 Qatar Taskforce, CRA supervised Qatar Airways’ transition from IPv4 to IPv6, ensuring compliance with regulatory, technical, and security standards. The airline’s structured implementation enhances its digital preparedness and sets a benchmark for other organizations within the national framework.
Ali Al Suwaidi, Director of Technical Affairs at CRA, hailed the activation as “a significant milestone achievement,” reflecting close collaboration between CRA and members of the IPv6 Qatar Taskforce. He emphasized CRA’s ongoing commitment to supporting stakeholders through awareness programs, technical assistance, and institutional coordination.
Al Suwaidi added that the transition to IPv6 is a “strategic necessity” for advancing communication networks and bolstering data security, reinforcing Qatar’s standing as a leading digital hub in alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Qatar Airways Chief Information Officer, Suhail Kamil Kadri, highlighted the airline’s dedication to innovation and digital transformation, stating: “Collaborating with the CRA to implement IPv6 underscores our commitment to building a secure, resilient, and future-ready digital infrastructure. This milestone reflects our alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030 and establishes a new benchmark for sustainability and operational excellence in the aviation industry.”
