Oman Air has achieved a significant milestone in its aviation journey after receiving its Approved Training Organisation (ATO) certification from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Oman. The certification was formally presented by His Excellency Eng. Naif Al Abri, President of the CAA, during an official ceremony at Oman Air’s Flight Training Centre in Seeb.
The new accreditation authorizes Oman Air to conduct comprehensive flight training under the latest regulatory framework, making it the first facility in the Sultanate to offer type rating programmes for Boeing aircraft. The airline has already commenced training its inaugural batch of cadets — graduates of the Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) programme — alongside existing pilots transitioning from Airbus aircraft to the Boeing 787 and 737 fleets.
“The Civil Aviation Authority commends Oman Air for achieving its ATO certification and for its role as a trusted partner in developing Oman’s civil aviation sector,” said Eng. Al Abri. “By empowering Oman Air to deliver advanced training locally, we are supporting national capability-building and laying the groundwork for the sector’s long-term growth in line with Oman’s Vision 2040.”
Captain Nasser Al Salmi, Chief Operating Officer at Oman Air, described the certification as “a major step forward” for the airline. “It enables us to deliver specialized, high-quality training that meets our operational and safety standards, while reinforcing Oman’s position as a hub for aviation excellence,” he said. “We are grateful to the CAA for its continued support and proud of our pilots and instructors who maintain the highest levels of professionalism.”
Oman Air continues to champion national talent development through collaborations with government bodies and academic institutions. The airline currently boasts an Omanisation rate of 88% among its pilots — a 6% increase over the past two years. As aviation remains a key driver of national growth, Oman Air’s latest certification underscores its commitment to international best practices and its contribution to building a sustainable future for Oman’s aviation sector.
