The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) received 2,399 complaints from passengers against air carriers in September, according to the authority’s latest monthly index released Wednesday. The index ranks air transport service providers and airports based on customer grievances and complaint resolution performance.
The report shows that flyadeal topped the rankings for airlines with the fewest complaints, logging 38 complaints per 100,000 passengers and achieving a 98% on-time resolution rate. Flynas followed closely with 43 complaints per 100,000 passengers and a 100% resolution rate, while Saudia Airlines ranked third with 54 complaints per 100,000 passengers and a 90% resolution rate.
Flight-related issues were the most common cause of complaints, followed by baggage handling and ticketing problems.
Among airports, King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh led its category for international airports handling over six million passengers annually, reporting 15 complaints per 100,000 passengers and resolving all of them on time.
In the category of smaller international airports, Abha International Airport recorded the lowest complaint rate with four per 100,000 passengers, also maintaining a 100% resolution rate. Sharourah Airport topped the domestic airport category, registering just one complaint per 100,000 passengers with full on-time resolution.
GACA said the monthly index aims to enhance transparency and help travelers make informed choices by highlighting how airlines and airports address passenger issues. The initiative also seeks to strengthen competition and improve service quality across the aviation sector.
The authority has distributed a guidelines booklet for handling passenger complaints and regularly holds training workshops for airline and ground staff to ensure compliance with customer rights regulations.
Passengers can submit complaints or feedback around the clock via several channels, including the unified call center (1929), WhatsApp (0115253333), social media, email, or the official GACA website.
