Etihad Airways and Hong Kong Airlines have announced a new codeshare agreement along with a reciprocal loyalty partnership, strengthening connectivity between the Middle East and Asia. The agreement was signed during an event in Hong Kong to mark Etihad’s inaugural flight from Abu Dhabi to Hong Kong International Airport.
Under the new arrangement, Hong Kong Airlines flights between Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi are now available as Etihad “EY” services. At the same time, travellers can book Etihad flights to Japan — including Fukuoka, Hokkaido-Sapporo, Osaka, and Okinawa — operated by Hong Kong Airlines under the “HX” code.
This setup allows passengers to travel on a single ticket with one check-in and automatic baggage transfer, making Abu Dhabi a convenient connection point linking Greater China and Japan with the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.
The loyalty tie-up between Etihad Guest and Hong Kong Airlines’ Fortune Wings Club will soon allow members to earn and redeem miles across both networks. The partnership also strengthens Etihad’s position as one of the most connected non-alliance loyalty programmes in the world.
Arik De, Etihad Airways’ Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, said the deal enhances value for travellers by offering “greater flexibility, broader reach, and superior rewards.” Louis Li, Executive Vice President of Hong Kong Airlines, said the partnership marks “an important milestone” in the airline’s return to the global market and will deepen commercial collaboration between the two carriers.
He added that the expanded partnership, first established in 2014, will boost trade, tourism, and travel convenience between Hong Kong and the Middle East.
