Saudia Airlines has launched its first fully internet-enabled flight, offering free high-speed WiFi of up to 300 Mbps to all passengers—setting a new standard for in-flight connectivity in the Kingdom. The inaugural test flight, held on November 1, 2025, showcased seamless internet access at 35,000 feet, allowing Saudi ministers to stream a live Saudi Pro League match, conduct video calls, and participate in live interviews midair.
The demonstration flight, SV1044, was attended by senior officials including Transport Minister Saleh Al-Jasser, underscoring Saudia’s push to integrate advanced digital services into its fleet. The airline aims to gather feedback during the pilot phase before expanding the service across all aircraft.
Nearly 20 planes are already equipped with the new WiFi technology, with plans to introduce it fleet-wide once regulatory steps are completed. Future upgrades could raise speeds to 800 Mbps, supporting everything from video streaming to virtual meetings—effectively transforming traditional in-flight entertainment.
The move strengthens Saudia’s appeal to corporate travelers, who can now work online throughout their journey. It also supports broader digital transformation goals under Saudi Vision 2030.
The launch comes as Saudia continues rapid expansion across aviation and tourism sectors. Recent initiatives include a partnership with the Aseer Development Authority to boost regional tourism, a new codeshare deal with Delta Air Lines for improved U.S.–Saudi connectivity, and an order of up to 100 electric air taxis from Germany’s Lilium to transport pilgrims and tourists by 2029.
Saudia and Flyadeal are also increasing daily flights to Abha during peak tourism seasons, while Saudia recently announced the Kingdom’s largest aircraft purchase—105 Airbus jets—to expand global reach and meet rising passenger demand.
In another milestone, Saudia Group’s new Hajj and Umrah subsidiary secured a license to serve up to 10,000 pilgrims, offering integrated travel and accommodation services. At the same time, Saudia continues exploring cutting-edge mobility with plans to introduce flying taxis for Hajj travelers between Jeddah and Makkah.
With its first high-speed WiFi flight now airborne, Saudia is positioning itself as a pioneer in digital aviation, reshaping the passenger experience and driving the Kingdom’s push toward a connected, innovation-driven future.
