Central European budget carrier Wizz Air has unveiled a revised expansion plan, confirming that it will operate an all-A321neo fleet by fiscal 2033. The airline, which currently boasts 243 aircraft, plans to replace its older A321s and A320s, keeping only a few older A320s and A320neos until 2033.
By the end of fiscal 2033, Wizz Air will operate 379 aircraft, including 368 standard A321neos and 11 long-range A321XLRs. The fleet overhaul means the airline will gradually retire 41 older A321s and most of its A320s by 2029.
Wizz Air’s revised strategy comes after scaling back its “Wizz 500” plan to grow its fleet to 500 aircraft by 2030, following the closure of its Abu Dhabi joint venture. The airline has shifted its delivery schedule, delaying the arrival of many A321neos and reducing its XLR order, with the new delivery timeline stretching to 2033.
This shift will see Wizz Air’s annual seat growth slow to 10-12%, which CEO Jozsef Varadi describes as a “more sustainable” pace. The carrier expects the most significant changes to its delivery profile in the coming 12 months.
