Emirates Airline is set to invest $12 billion into the expansion of Dubai World Central (DWC) airport, a major step toward enhancing Dubai's aviation infrastructure. The announcement, made during the Dubai Airshow, marks the first international commitment to the ambitious mega-project.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of Emirates Group, emphasized the scale of the investment, noting that while the $3.5 billion funding from the UK government is a significant contribution, it represents only a small part of the larger vision for Al Maktoum International. “This is just the beginning,” Sheikh Ahmed stated, highlighting the broader goals of the project and expressing appreciation for global support in contributing to Dubai's ongoing success.
The UAE and the UK have maintained a strong trade and economic relationship, with this project further solidifying their collaboration. Chris Bryant, UK Minister for Trade, remarked that Al Maktoum International Airport will redefine global aviation and provide ample opportunities for British suppliers to demonstrate their innovative capabilities.
Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, outlined that the project is being executed through a carefully structured program that incorporates advanced engineering, resilient design, and long-term strategic planning, ensuring its success in shaping the future of aviation.
