Emirates has placed an order for an additional eight Airbus A350-900 wide-body aircraft, valued at $3.4 billion, announced on the third day of the Dubai Airshow. This new order will bring the airline’s total A350-900 fleet to 73 aircraft upon completion of deliveries. To date, Emirates has already received 13 A350 aircraft.
The newly ordered A350-900s, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB84 engines, are scheduled for delivery by 2031. This deal complements Emirates’ earlier agreement for 65 additional Boeing 777-9 aircraft, marking a significant expansion of its fleet and contributing to a total commitment of $41.4 billion in new aircraft at the Dubai Airshow.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed, Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group, emphasized the importance of these new aircraft in enhancing the airline’s capacity. “The A350’s entry into service last November has provided welcome additional capacity for the world’s largest long-haul airline,” he said, adding that the airline will continue to collaborate closely with Airbus to ensure timely deliveries of the remaining aircraft.
This is a massive investment in our future, ensuring a better flying experience for our customers and fostering growth in the aviation sector, with job creation and value generation, Sheikh Ahmed added.
Emirates’ orders at the Dubai Airshow also included 130 GE9X engines from GE Aerospace, powering their twin-engine aircraft.
In a separate development, Libya’s Buraq Air signed a preliminary agreement with Airbus for the purchase of 10 A320neo aircraft, making the Tripoli-based carrier Airbus’ newest customer. While the deal’s value remains undisclosed, Buraq Air’s General Assembly President, Fouzi Almiqalh, described it as a significant step in modernizing their fleet and expanding their reach.
The A320neo’s efficiency and flexibility will be vital in strengthening our core network and will provide a seamless platform for Medsky Airways, our strategic partner, to enhance passenger services across both carriers, Almiqalh noted.
