Six major international airlines have suspended flights to Venezuela following escalating security concerns and heightened military activity in and around the country’s airspace. The development follows a safety notice issued by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which warned carriers of a potentially hazardous situation for commercial aviation operating in Venezuelan territory.
The FAA advisory highlighted risks that could affect aircraft during all phases of flight—including overflights, approaches, landings, and even while grounded at Venezuelan airports. Airlines were urged to exercise increased caution when planning routes to or through the region.
In response, Iberia, TAP Air Portugal, LATAM Airlines, Avianca, GOL Linhas Aéreas, and Caribbean Airlines suspended Venezuela-bound flights effective 22 November 2025. Both Iberia and TAP directly cited the FAA warning as the reason for the temporary halt, though neither airline has announced when regular operations might resume. The suspensions underscore the uncertainty and elevated safety risks surrounding Venezuelan airspace amid rising military tensions.
Despite the widespread suspensions, several carriers continue to maintain connectivity to Caracas and other Venezuelan destinations. Copa Airlines, Air Europa, PlusUltra, Turkish Airlines, and Venezuela’s LASER Airlines are still operating flights while closely monitoring the evolving situation.
The differing responses reflect the varied operational assessments by global airlines as concerns grow over regional security and the safety of commercial aviation routes.
