Turkish Airlines and South African Airways have signed a new codeshare agreement that will significantly expand travel options between Africa, Türkiye and key European gateways from 1 March 2026.
The deal, announced on Friday and signed at a ceremony in Geneva, brings together Türkiye’s flag carrier and South Africa’s national airline. The agreement was formalised by Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of Turkish Airlines, and John Lamola, CEO of South African Airways, according to a statement from Turkish Airlines.
Bolat said the two flag carriers are working to offer passengers more comprehensive and flexible travel options, adding that the partnership is expected to strengthen not only commercial ties, but also long-standing cultural and tourism relations between the two countries.
Lamola described the codeshare as a strategic move to expand reliable and competitive air travel for their customers. He noted that Turkish Airlines is a highly regarded global carrier and that the collaboration underlines both airlines’ shared commitment to improving connectivity between Africa and Türkiye, while supporting tourism, trade and sustainable economic growth.
From 1 March 2026, passengers of both airlines will gain access to an expanded network through shared flight codes on selected routes:
- South African Airways will codeshare on: Johannesburg–Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Windhoek, Harare, Victoria Falls and Mauritius.
- Turkish Airlines will codeshare on: Istanbul–Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, as well as onward services to Frankfurt, Paris and London.
The partnership is designed to deepen commercial cooperation and offer smoother itineraries, better connectivity and more travel alternatives for passengers across Africa, Türkiye and Europe.
