Global airline distribution specialist Hahnair has officially entered the Bangladesh market, giving local travel agencies new access to issue tickets for more than 350 airlines globally through the country’s BSP (Billing and Settlement Plan).
The German aviation company began operating in the Bangladesh BSP about a month ago and is already engaging the local travel trade. At a networking event in Dhaka on December 4, organised with its Bangladeshi GSA Maas Travel and Tours, Hahnair executives outlined how the company aims to support agencies by expanding ticketing reach and simplifying complex itineraries.
Speaking to local media during the event, Bharat Kapoor, Hahnair’s Regional Vice President for Agency Distribution, described Bangladesh as “a land of opportunity” for the company’s interline and distribution model.
Hahnair’s core service allows agencies to use Hahnair (HR) as the validating carrier—enabling them to issue tickets for partner airlines that may not participate in the local BSP or cannot be ticketed directly through the agency’s GDS setup. Kapoor said passengers still fly on the operating airline, while the ticketing document is issued on Hahnair stock, with fares remaining unchanged.
The model also helps agencies create itineraries involving multiple airlines that may not have direct interline agreements with each other, allowing travel sellers to combine flights and issue them under a single ticket.
Kapoor highlighted strong interest among Bangladeshi agents in airlines such as SalamAir, which does not participate directly in global distribution systems. Through Hahnair, agencies can still sell such carriers.
Beyond its standard interline partners, Hahnair also provides access to 100+ non-GDS airlines using H1 and X1 codes, which make those flights available in the GDS and easier for agencies to ticket.
With more than 25 years in airline distribution and a network of 100,000+ travel agencies globally, Hahnair believes Bangladesh could become one of its strongest markets in the region, citing performance in neighbouring countries such as India, Sri Lanka and Nepal.
Kapoor stressed that Hahnair’s approach is built on cooperation with the travel trade, noting the company is open to working with agencies of all sizes as it expands its footprint in Bangladesh.
Hahnair said its global scale is reflected in one key statistic: every nine seconds, a passenger holding a Hahnair ticket boards one of its partner airlines—underscoring how widely the platform is already used worldwide.
