Oman’s budget airline, SalamAir, has officially opened ticket sales for its new direct route connecting Muscat with Damascus, Syria. The inaugural flight is scheduled for May 2, 2026, pending government approval, with subsequent services operating twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Damascus, recognized as one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities, is a key cultural and economic hub in the Levant. The city is famed for its historic old town, traditional markets, and architectural landmarks, and it also plays a significant role in regional commerce, education, and governance.
Steven Allen, Chief Commercial Officer of SalamAir, commented on the launch, stating, “Our decision to introduce Damascus as a destination, making SalamAir the first Omani carrier to serve Syria, underscores our strategic and market-driven approach to expanding our network. This route has been meticulously planned to address growing travel demand between Oman and Syria.”
In addition to Damascus, SalamAir has recently announced plans to launch flights from Muscat to Port Sudan, Medan, and Vienna in 2026, further broadening its international network.
