Qatar’s aviation sector recorded a landmark year in 2025, marked by innovation, resilience, and growing international influence, as the country advanced major initiatives in air transport, safety, and global connectivity.
The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) highlighted a series of milestones achieved over the year, underscoring efforts to strengthen operations and expand Qatar’s global aviation footprint. Among the most notable achievements was Qatar’s re-election to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council under Category C for a second consecutive term covering 2026–2028.
Securing 170 votes, Qatar topped the Category C group, reinforcing international confidence in its contribution to global civil aviation policy and governance.
The re-election reflects Qatar’s active role in promoting international cooperation, advancing aviation infrastructure, and supporting a safe, efficient, and sustainable global air transport system. QCAA noted that these efforts have positioned the country as a key player in shaping future aviation standards.
Operational progress was also made in airspace management. In April, ICAO approved Phase Two of Qatar’s management of the Doha Flight Information Region (FIR/UIR) and Search and Rescue Region (SRR), following the successful completion of Phase One, which met all safety and security requirements.
Throughout 2025, QCAA rolled out new digital services, signed multiple agreements and memoranda of understanding, and supported initiatives aimed at enhancing air connectivity between Qatar and international markets. The authority also adopted advanced digital technologies and artificial intelligence in air traffic management, improving operational efficiency and strengthening safety standards.
Doha further reinforced its global aviation standing by hosting the ICAO Facilitation Conference (FALC 2025), attended by more than 120 ministers and heads of civil aviation authorities. The conference concluded with the adoption of the Doha Declaration on International Air Transport Facilitation, focusing on smoother, more resilient global air travel.
In addition, QCAA launched the second phase of Qatar’s initiative to shorten air routes in Egyptian airspace, building on the success of Phase One. The project aims to reduce flight times, operating costs, and emissions, while supporting environmental sustainability. It is also expected to serve as a model for similar airspace optimization initiatives in Africa, India, and Southeast Asia, generating economic and operational benefits for airlines worldwide.
