Dozens of flights connecting Iran to key regional destinations—including Dubai, Doha, and Istanbul—were canceled on Friday as escalating unrest in Iran continued to disrupt travel operations.
Data from the Dubai Airports website showed that at least 17 flydubai services between Dubai and Iranian cities such as Tehran, Shiraz, and Mashhad were canceled. The airport authority did not provide an explanation for the disruptions. However, the cancellations coincided with a nationwide internet blackout that began on Thursday and extended into Friday, as Iranian authorities moved to clamp down on widening protests.
The demonstrations, triggered by worsening economic conditions, erupted in late December and have since spread across the country.
Flydubai did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Separately, Turkish media reported that Turkish Airlines canceled 17 flights to and from Iran, while AnadoluJet (Ajet) called off six services. Budget carrier Pegasus Airlines also suspended multiple flights to Iranian cities on Friday.
In Qatar, Hamad International Airport’s website indicated that at least two flights between Doha and Tehran scheduled for Friday were also canceled.
