Philippine Airlines (PAL) marked its 85th anniversary by unveiling its newest flagship aircraft, the Airbus A350-1000, during a ceremony in Manila on January 17.
The carrier took delivery of the jet on December 20, 2025, becoming the first airline in Southeast Asia and the 10th worldwide to operate the A350-1000. PAL said the aircraft is fitted with a three-class cabin for 382 passengers, including 42 business class, 29 premium economy, and 316 economy seats.
PAL Holdings President and COO Lucio Tan III described the A350-1000 as a key pillar of the airline’s long-haul strategy—particularly for North America—as the flag carrier works to strengthen its international network. Since entering service, the aircraft has already operated flights to Bangkok, Hong Kong, and New York, according to the airline.
Tan framed the new widebody as a sign of renewed momentum for PAL, while also reflecting on the airline’s history—from its transpacific milestone in 1946 to rebuilding operations after air travel was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the aircraft’s unveiling underscored the need for the country to keep pace with aviation industry developments. He added that the government would continue efforts to modernize the Philippines’ aviation network, citing ongoing airport expansion projects including Laguindingan International Airport, Bohol-Panglao Airport, and Caticlan Airport, while encouraging collaboration with the private sector.
The newly introduced aircraft is the first of nine A350-1000s PAL ordered from Airbus in 2023. The airline expects five more deliveries in 2026, with the remaining aircraft scheduled to arrive through 2027.
