Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have officially cemented their joint business partnership after receiving final regulatory clearances from authorities in both countries. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia granted its approval in January 2026, following a similar nod from the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore in July 2025.
With regulatory hurdles cleared, the two carriers can now begin implementing a series of initiatives to expand their commercial cooperation. These plans are set to include coordinated flight timetables, joint fare products, shared corporate travel programs, and potential revenue-sharing arrangements on routes between Malaysia and Singapore. Additional measures will be introduced gradually, with detailed announcements to follow as each initiative takes shape.
The collaboration seeks to enhance air links between the two Southeast Asian neighbours, providing travellers with more choices, improved flexibility, and a smoother travel experience across both networks.
MAS and SIA first laid the groundwork for this partnership in October 2019 through an initial cooperation agreement. Since then, their strategic alignment has steadily grown. SIA currently codeshares on MAS services between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, London Heathrow, and 15 Malaysian domestic destinations. In turn, MAS has expanded its presence by codesharing on SIA flights linking Singapore with Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and major long-haul destinations including Barcelona, Brussels, Cape Town, Copenhagen, Istanbul, Johannesburg, London, Rome, and Zurich.
In February 2024, the two airlines deepened their partnership with reciprocal frequent flyer benefits, enabling Enrich and KrisFlyer members to earn and redeem miles on select flights operated by either carrier.
Izham bin Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group, described the partnership as a milestone for MAS. “This collaboration optimizes our combined schedules and flight frequencies, creating a more integrated network between Malaysia and Singapore. It strengthens Malaysia Airlines’ position in key markets, enhancing efficiency, scale, and competitiveness,” he said.
Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong added that the tie-up will bring broad benefits to both carriers and their customers. “Our partnership delivers tangible value across both networks and supports the deep trade, tourism, and cultural ties that connect Singapore and Malaysia. It’s a win-win arrangement that enhances connectivity and economic growth across the region,” he stated.
