Thailand’s aviation regulator has asked Thai AirAsia to explain why 23 passengers were left behind on flight FD3116 from Don Mueang to Hat Yai, forcing the plane to return and delaying the departure by 36 minutes. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) confirmed the incident, which occurred on January 17 during the transfer between the terminal and the aircraft, causing the flight to leave later than scheduled.
CAAT has requested the airline to clarify what happened, focusing on staff coordination and communication, as well as the procedures used to ensure all passengers were on board before takeoff. The authority will also determine whether the airline followed proper safety and passenger service standards in handling the situation.
Thai AirAsia said the flight, scheduled to depart Don Mueang at 7:10 a.m. and arrive in Hat Yai at 8:45 a.m., carried 136 passengers. The airline admitted that a breakdown in communication among staff led to some passengers being left behind. To ensure everyone could travel as planned, the captain decided to return and pick up the missing passengers, resulting in a delay of about 36 minutes.
The airline apologized for the inconvenience, announced an internal investigation into the staff involved, and said it had taken corrective action under company rules. Thai AirAsia also promised to strengthen supervision to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
