Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA) has announced the introduction of a new scheduled service by Indian low-cost carrier SpiceJet, linking Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport to Sharjah International Airport.
The new route underscores SAA’s ongoing efforts to broaden its international reach and strengthen air connectivity between the UAE and India—a key travel corridor supporting business, tourism, and family visits.
The flights began on Thursday, February 5, and will operate five times per week using Boeing 737 aircraft. The service aims to meet growing passenger demand while providing travellers with more convenient and flexible options between the two cities.
Adding Ahmedabad to Sharjah Airport’s expanding destination network forms part of a wider strategy focused on attracting global carriers—particularly from high-growth markets such as India, which continues to be one of the airport’s top source markets for both inbound and outbound passengers.
Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Airport Authority, welcomed the new connection, noting that it aligns with the airport’s commitment to improving passenger experiences through more route options and efficient services. He added that Sharjah Airport is continuously developing its infrastructure and adopting smart technologies to ensure smooth, hassle-free travel while keeping pace with rising passenger volumes.
Al Midfa also highlighted the Authority’s dedication to fostering long-term partnerships with international airlines as part of its plan to strengthen global connectivity and create new avenues for cooperation. “This initiative reflects Sharjah Airport’s vision to establish itself as a leading regional hub distinguished by exceptional service, efficient operations, and a seamless passenger journey,” he said.
The new route is one of several additions to Sharjah Airport’s growing network. Recently launched destinations include Krabi, Munich, Prague, Warsaw Modlin, Vienna, Addis Ababa, and Sochi, with direct flights to London set to begin in March 2026.
Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer at SpiceJet, said the Ahmedabad–Sharjah route represents an important expansion in the airline’s international network and caters to the strong demand for travel between India and the UAE. “Sharjah has always been a key destination for Indian travellers—whether for work, tourism, or visiting loved ones.
This new service will offer them greater convenience and reliability,” he noted. Maharshi also reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to working closely with Sharjah Airport Authority to enhance connectivity across the region.
During 2025, Sharjah Airport expanded its network to more than 100 global destinations and welcomed four new international airlines. The airport also introduced several infrastructural and operational upgrades that improved processing efficiency and reduced wait times for passengers.
SAA reiterated that it remains focused on building strong airline partnerships and continuing to develop its global route network to deliver a smoother, more connected travel experience for all its passengers.
