The Norwegian Group recorded 1.52 million passengers in January, marking a steady start to the year for both its mainline and regional operations. Of the total, 1.24 million travelers flew with Norwegian, while 282,000 were carried by its regional arm, Widerøe. The Group intentionally scaled back capacity to reflect the traditionally slower winter travel period.
Despite a 7% year-on-year reduction in available capacity, Norwegian reported a robust load factor of 85.8%, a gain of 3.8 percentage points compared with last year. The improvement was attributed to solid underlying demand and rising unit revenues. On average, the airline operated 72 aircraft during the month, maintaining high operational reliability with a 99.3% regularity rate and a punctuality level of 70.4%.
According to the airline’s management, forward bookings for the rest of the winter season are tracking ahead of last year, supported by strong interest in holiday travel to warmer destinations.
Meanwhile, Widerøe maintained stable performance despite challenging Nordic winter weather. The regional carrier slightly reduced capacity, with its load factor easing to 64.2%. Nevertheless, the airline reported consistently high punctuality and operational reliability, providing a solid foundation heading into the peak winter travel period.
