Emirates has renewed its 23-year partnership with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (SSO), extending the collaboration until 2028 and reaffirming their shared dedication to uniting people through music, culture, and travel.
The relationship—Emirates’ longest-running non-sport sponsorship worldwide—builds on more than two decades of cooperation between the airline and the orchestra. Together, they aim to continue bringing world-class performances to audiences in Australia and to travellers across the globe.
To mark the milestone, a Sydney Symphony ensemble performed a special piece titled Takeoff on the tarmac at Sydney Airport, set against the backdrop of the airline’s iconic Airbus A380. Composed by Jessica Wells and commissioned exclusively for Emirates, the work pays tribute to the aircraft and celebrates how music and aviation both have the power to bridge cultures and transcend borders.
As part of the renewed agreement, the SSO will feature more prominently on Emirates’ acclaimed inflight entertainment platform, ice. Passengers travelling across the airline’s global network will be able to enjoy a rotating line-up of orchestral performances, including the recent addition of The Planets.
Barry Brown, Divisional Vice President Australasia at Emirates, said the partnership reflects the airline’s enduring commitment to creativity and cultural connection. “Music and travel both inspire and bring people together,” he said. “We’re proud to continue our partnership with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, a cultural leader that embodies excellence and innovation. This renewal allows us not only to support the arts in Australia but also to share the orchestra’s remarkable performances with millions of passengers worldwide.”
Through the extended partnership, Emirates will keep supporting the orchestra’s live programs, digital initiatives, and audience engagement efforts. The airline will also offer exclusive ticketing opportunities, hospitality experiences, and co-presenting roles for selected concert series.
The Sydney Symphony Orchestra performs more than 150 concerts annually to live audiences exceeding 350,000 people and reaches millions more globally through recordings and digital streaming. The renewed partnership continues to strengthen that reach, helping to make orchestral music accessible to audiences everywhere.
Sydney Symphony Orchestra CEO Craig Whitehead said: “We’re delighted to continue our long-standing collaboration with Emirates, whose support has allowed us to bring extraordinary musical experiences to the Sydney Opera House and beyond. This renewal celebrates our shared passion for innovation and excellence, and we’re excited to deliver more of our music to a global audience through ice.”
The partnership forms part of Emirates’ broader commitment to supporting arts and culture in Australia and worldwide. Alongside its extensive sports sponsorship portfolio, the airline continues to invest in music, literature, and the visual arts—strengthening cultural connections across the communities it serves.
