Saudia has taken delivery of its inaugural Airbus A321XLR aircraft, making it the first airline in the Middle East and Africa to introduce the extra-long-range narrow-body model into commercial service.
The addition represents a significant step in the carrier’s fleet development programme and reflects its ongoing investment in modern aircraft designed to enhance efficiency, passenger comfort, and environmental performance.
With a maximum range of approximately 8,700 kilometres and flight capability of up to nine hours, the A321XLR enables Saudia to operate longer international routes using a single-aisle aircraft, improving flexibility on medium- and long-haul services.
The airline said the new aircraft will support its strategy to expand global connectivity while matching capacity with demand and maintaining a premium onboard experience.
This aircraft is also the first to incorporate key features of Saudia’s updated onboard concept, branded as “The New Saudia Experience,” which focuses on improved comfort, digital connectivity, entertainment, dining, and service consistency.
The cabin configuration includes 24 Business Class suites offering enhanced privacy, alongside 120 Guest Class seats equipped with upgraded seating, 13-inch entertainment screens, and individual charging ports.
Passengers will also benefit from high-speed inflight internet capable of supporting streaming, browsing, online meetings, and entertainment services.
In Business Class, travellers will have access to a dedicated inflight chef service offering customised menus featuring both Saudi and international cuisine.
Ibrahim Al-Omar, Director General of Saudia Group, said the aircraft delivery marks continued progress in the airline’s broader transformation programme.
He noted that the expansion is not solely focused on increasing fleet size, but also on strengthening capabilities, upgrading products, and improving competitiveness in line with Saudi Arabia’s aviation ambitions.
Saudia also highlighted its recent agreement with Airbus for 105 confirmed aircraft, which is expected to support local supply chain development and create greater opportunities for Saudi-based suppliers within the global aviation industry.
The airline plans to introduce 15 Airbus A321XLR aircraft into its fleet by 2027 as part of a wider growth strategy aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, aimed at boosting tourism, business travel, pilgrimage services, and major international events.
The expansion comes ahead of a series of major global events scheduled to be hosted by Saudi Arabia, including the AFC Asian Cup 2027, Expo 2030, and the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
