Qatar Airways is expanding its Australian network with the launch of direct passenger flights between Doha's Hamad International Airport and Western Sydney International Airport from 15 December 2027.
The new service will make Western Sydney the airline's seventh Australian gateway, joining Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale from 19 December 2026.
The route will initially operate three times a week using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, featuring 42 Business Class seats and 312 Economy Class seats. The aircraft will offer the airline's Qsuite Business Class product and complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi connectivity.
Qatar Airways plans to gradually increase the frequency to daily services, providing passengers with more travel options and strengthening connections between Australia and destinations across its global network.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Hamad Al Khater said the launch represented a further step in the airline's long-standing relationship with Australia.
He said the service would connect Western Sydney directly with Doha and provide access through Hamad International Airport to more than 170 destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Europe and other regions. The route is also expected to create opportunities for trade, tourism and investment between Australia, Qatar and international markets.
Al Khater added that Western Sydney International Airport's 24-hour operating capacity would help attract international visitors to New South Wales and provide exporters with a direct cargo connection to markets in the Gulf and beyond.
Western Sydney International Airport Chief Executive Officer Simon Hickey welcomed the airline's arrival, saying the service would connect local travellers to destinations worldwide through Doha.
Hickey said the addition of Qatar Airways would expand travel options as the airport develops its international network. He noted that passengers would be able to access more than 250 destinations worldwide through the airport's airline partnerships within the first 14 months of its launch.
The new service will also complement the wider expansion of the Qatar Airways-Virgin Australia partnership, which aims to create further network opportunities and improve access to international destinations for Australian travellers.
