Cathay Pacific and HK Express carried approximately three million passengers in September 2026, marking a 9% increase year-on-year. Meanwhile, Cathay Cargo transported more than 150,000 tonnes of freight, up 14% from the same month last year.
Cathay Pacific recorded a 12% increase in passenger numbers, while capacity, measured in available seat kilometres, grew by 9%. The airline reported strong demand from students travelling from Hong Kong and mainland China to long-haul destinations, particularly the United Kingdom. Demand for premium cabins also remained firm.
For the first nine months of 2026, Cathay Pacific’s passenger numbers increased by 14% year-on-year.
Cathay Cargo’s September freight volumes rose faster than capacity, which increased by 5% in available freight tonne kilometres. Demand from mainland China and Southeast Asia remained resilient, driven by time-sensitive shipments and semiconductor-related cargo. Freight volumes for the first nine months were up 9%.
HK Express experienced a softer September, carrying more than 520,000 passengers, a 1% decline despite a 10% increase in capacity. The low-cost airline reported strong load factors on routes to the Philippines and passenger growth on services to mainland China. Its passenger total for the first nine months increased by 8%.
The group expects passenger demand to remain healthy and the cargo market to strengthen in the fourth quarter. However, elevated jet fuel prices continue to pose a challenge to its outlook.
HK Express is also set to expand its mainland China network, adding four weekly flights to Hefei from 3 December 2026.
