Oman Airports says it is moving aggressively to bring more foreign airlines into the Sultanate, aiming to expand international connectivity and support inbound tourism growth.
In comments to Oman Observer, Oman Airports CEO Eng. Ahmed Al Amri said the airport operator is rolling out a focused strategy to attract new carriers—while also working to build the market demand airlines need before launching routes.
Al Amri explained that Oman Airports is trying to stimulate demand “from both ends,” holding talks with operators across multiple countries to secure charter flights as a starting point. The goal, he said, is to transition those early services into regular scheduled routes once demand is established.
He added that Oman Airports is prioritising the Chinese market, while also exploring opportunities in Eastern Europe and Russia. The recent launch of China Eastern services was described as an initial step, with plans to grow connections to China further—potentially from additional major cities, not only Beijing.
Oman Airports also reported steady traffic volumes in 2025. In the first 10 months of the year, the airports handled 513,159 international passengers and 1,040,811 domestic passengers, supported by 36,272 international flights and 7,127 domestic flights.
