The United Arab Emirates and Egypt have signed an agreement to progressively expand bilateral air traffic rights over the next five years, marking a significant step toward strengthening aviation cooperation and improving connectivity between the two countries.
The understanding was signed on the sidelines of the 11th ICAO AFI Week in Cairo and sets out a phased framework for increasing air services in response to growing demand for passenger and cargo traffic.
Under the agreement, both countries will gradually expand air traffic rights, creating additional opportunities for airlines while supporting closer economic cooperation and improving connectivity.
Officials said the initiative reflects the strong strategic relationship between the UAE and Egypt and is expected to stimulate tourism, trade and investment by meeting the rising demand for air travel between the two markets.
Abdulla Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism and Chairman of the Board of the General Civil Aviation Authority, said the agreement demonstrates the depth of the strategic partnership between the two countries and their shared commitment to strengthening regional air connectivity. He said the phased expansion of air traffic rights will support aviation, tourism, investment and broader economic growth while further reinforcing bilateral relations.
Egypt's Minister of Civil Aviation, Dr Sameh El Hefny, described the understanding as another milestone in the long-standing cooperation between the two nations in civil aviation. He said it will enhance air connectivity, accommodate growing demand for air transport services and strengthen the position of both countries as leading aviation hubs in the region.
Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, said the agreement reflects the high level of trust and cooperation between the two countries. He noted that the framework supports the sustainable growth of air services while creating greater opportunities for airlines and travellers.
Sameh Fawzy, President of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, said the agreement highlights the constructive collaboration between the aviation authorities of both countries and their shared vision of developing a modern, safe and sustainable air transport sector capable of meeting future growth while improving the efficiency of air transport services.
