Dubai Airports has introduced a new exterior design for the air traffic control (ATC) tower at Dubai International Airport (DXB), giving one of the facility’s most prominent structures a new look that highlights the UAE’s national identity.
The updated tower now prominently displays the colours of the UAE flag, making it visible to passengers arriving in and departing from Dubai. The unveiling was commemorated with a ceremony on the airside, including a parade by Dubai Police held against the backdrop of the tower.
The event brought together senior executives from Dubai Airports, operational personnel and members of the wider oneDXB partner network, recognising the cooperation and coordination that underpin daily activities at the airport.
Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, described the ATC tower as one of DXB’s most significant structures, noting that thousands of operational decisions are made there each day to ensure safe and efficient aircraft movements. He said aviation remains a key contributor to the UAE economy and that incorporating the national flag into the landmark reflects the country’s ambitions while honouring the teams and partners that support DXB’s operations.
Since opening with a single runway in 1960, Dubai International has evolved into the world’s busiest airport for international passengers. The 89-metre ATC tower, which has been in service since the airport’s expansion in 2000, plays a central role in managing the flow of arrivals, departures and aircraft movements through close cooperation among airlines, ground handlers, safety personnel and other members of the oneDXB community.
Distinguished by its buttressed central column and curved wings, the tower’s architecture resembles a futuristic bird-like form. Its multi-level control centre at the top houses Dubai Air Navigation Services, which oversees air traffic operations and supports the efficient functioning of the global hub.
