Kuwait Customs has stepped up monitoring and inspection measures across all airport terminals as part of an intensified campaign to safeguard the country’s national security and prevent the smuggling of contraband materials.
According to a statement from the General Administration of Customs, the move is aimed at enhancing vigilance across air entry points and ensuring closer cooperation between customs inspectors and security agencies. Officials said the tighter controls come amid ongoing efforts to reinforce Kuwait’s logistical and border security framework in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and airport authorities.
A senior customs official explained that the measures include advanced screening technologies, random baggage inspections, and increased patrols in both passenger and cargo areas. “Our goal is to ensure that all goods and travelers entering or leaving the country comply fully with customs regulations and national safety protocols,” the official said.
“The Customs Department remains fully committed to supporting Kuwait’s national security objectives by preventing any illegal activities at the borders.”
Recent months have seen several successful interceptions of smuggled goods, including narcotics, counterfeit items, and restricted materials, prompting authorities to ramp up surveillance and deploy additional personnel for round-the-clock monitoring at Kuwait International Airport.
Customs authorities also emphasized ongoing training programs for officers to enhance their ability to detect concealed or illicit shipments using modern scanning and risk-assessment techniques. The department noted that collaboration with regional and international customs organizations enables Kuwait to stay aligned with global security and trade facilitation standards.
The enhanced airport security and customs vigilance reflect Kuwait’s broader commitment to maintaining the safety of passengers and transportation infrastructure amid growing challenges in global air travel.
