Oman’s Directorate General of Customs has redefined public service efficiency through its digital one-stop permit system, which processed more than 140,000 permits in 2025, completing some approvals in as fast as 16 seconds. This milestone underscores the Sultanate’s ongoing drive to simplify trade procedures and enhance service delivery for businesses and the public.
The accomplishment was showcased during World Customs Day 2026, held under the theme “Customs protects society through vigilance and commitment.” The celebration highlighted how integrated government platforms are transforming Oman’s customs operations, reinforcing its position as a regional logistics hub driven by smart technologies.
According to Brigadier Said bin Khamis Al Ghaithi, Director General of Customs, the one-stop system operates under the Bayan electronic platform, which seamlessly connects customs with multiple government agencies. The platform enables end-to-end electronic permit processing, advanced risk management, and post-clearance audits — key components of Oman’s digital governance framework.
Brig. Al Ghaithi noted that the platform is designed to keep trade moving efficiently without compromising compliance or border security. He stressed that digital transformation has become a national imperative — not just an administrative upgrade, but a strategic tool to boost the economy and safeguard society.
In addition to the permit system, the Directorate processed more than 1.29 million customs declarations in 2025, demonstrating that digital integration can sustain both high operational throughput and robust control measures. Through the adoption of artificial intelligence in customs valuation and risk detection, officers identified over 1,000 smuggling and prohibited import cases, reflecting a 10% increase from the previous year.
The one-stop initiative directly supports Oman’s Vision 2040 goals by cutting administrative delays, encouraging investment, and expediting cross-border trade. The Directorate is also nurturing local expertise to operate these advanced systems while rolling out outreach programmes to educate traders and travellers.
To strengthen customer support, Oman Customs provides a 24-hour toll-free helpline (80080022), offering assistance to importers, exporters, and passengers navigating customs procedures.
