Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) has announced a record year for Bahrain International Airport (BIA) in 2025, as both passenger numbers and cargo volumes reached all-time highs.
Passenger traffic rose by 4.2% to 9.74 million, up from 9.35 million in 2024, while aircraft movements totalled 97,740. Cargo operations also saw strong growth, with 405,217 tonnes handled in 2025 — a 3.2% increase from the previous year’s 392,812 tonnes. BAC said the results highlight BIA’s growing importance as a regional logistics hub and key link in global trade routes.
According to the company, the rise was mainly driven by higher load factors and more efficient runway usage, rather than a sharp increase in flight numbers. BIA now connects passengers and cargo to 74 destinations across six continents through 39 airlines.
The airport expanded its global network in 2025 with new routes to London Gatwick, Nairobi, New York, Bucharest, Ashgabat, and Liège, further enhancing Bahrain’s connectivity.
BAC’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Ahmed Mohamed Janahi, praised the airport’s performance:
“BIA delivered exceptional reliability and connectivity last year, thanks to the dedication of our airline partners and the wider airport community. This success reflects our commitment to advancing Bahrain’s economic goals. In 2026, our focus will remain on improving the passenger experience and driving sustainable growth in the Kingdom’s aviation sector.”
BAC emphasized that BIA continues to serve as Bahrain’s main aviation gateway, linking the Kingdom to key markets across the Middle East, Europe, Asia, Africa, and beyond. The record cargo handling figures also reinforce the airport’s position as a regional logistics leader, supporting Bahrain’s growing trade activity and strategic role in global supply chains.
BIA’s busiest day for aircraft movements was April 14, while August 8 saw the highest passenger volumes. Peak aircraft activity occurred around 1 a.m., and passenger flow peaked at 9 p.m. The fastest-growing destinations in 2025 included Singapore, Bengaluru, Abu Dhabi, Najaf, and Sharjah, BAC added.
