Madinah has been named the leading destination for visitors across the region, with 73.7% of travelers selecting the holy city as their first choice, according to a new report from the Madinah Chamber of Commerce. The findings reflect Madinah’s enduring spiritual significance, deep historical roots, and rising profile as a global tourism hub.
Tourism performance indicators place Madinah among the world’s top 100 destinations, ranking seventh globally in the tourism performance index further underscoring its prominence as a center for religious, cultural, and economic activity.
The report highlighted that nearly half of inbound tourists — 47.2% — also visited AlUla, drawn to its UNESCO World Heritage sites, rich heritage, and cultural events. Meanwhile, 14.1% of domestic travelers chose Yanbu, a growing family tourism hotspot known for its beaches, marine activities, and relaxed coastal atmosphere.
These figures signal a rapidly expanding tourism ecosystem in the Madinah region, strengthened by coordinated national efforts to develop destinations and elevate Saudi Arabia’s position on the global travel map in line with Vision 2030.
Madinah also secured the top position nationwide for hospitality occupancy in the first half of 2025, reaching 74.7%, according to the Ministry of Tourism. The city’s licensed hospitality portfolio has grown to 538 facilities, including 69 new establishments, offering a total of 64,569 hotel rooms with more than 6,600 newly added rooms supporting rising demand.
The growth reflects large-scale development projects aimed at strengthening infrastructure, expanding accommodation capacity, and enhancing visitor services particularly for religious tourism. “Madinah has always been a city close to our heart,” said Ahmad Al-Otaibi, a Taif resident working in Riyadh. “No city can compare to the peaceful atmosphere of Madinah… the atmosphere still calms you.” He praised the city’s development efforts, noting improved services and hospitality infrastructure that elevate both visitor and resident quality of life.
The Madinah Chamber emphasized that the city’s rising global standing is the result of integrated national efforts to strengthen tourism offerings and enhance the visitor experience.
With its spiritual legacy, heritage richness, and ongoing development initiatives, Madinah is reinforcing its position as a world-class destination and a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s tourism transformation.
