Saudi Arabia’s national carrier Saudia has officially launched direct scheduled flights between Riyadh and Moscow, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s global expansion and in the strengthening of ties between the Kingdom and Russia.
The inaugural flights, held in collaboration with the Saudi Tourism Authority, were celebrated with ceremonies in both capitals, culminating in a gala event in Moscow titled “Wings of Connection.” The event brought together dignitaries including Saudi Ambassador to Russia, airline executives, and tourism officials from both nations.
“This first trip is the beginning of a history that will undoubtedly continue for a long time,” said Sergey Kozlov, the Russian ambassador to Saudi Arabia, emphasizing that the direct route will enhance connectivity and foster cooperation between the two countries.
Saudia Director General Ibrahim Al-Omar highlighted that the new service aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals of expanding global connectivity, boosting tourism, and strengthening economic relations. “This direct flight will help economically and also encourage tourism for both countries,” he said.
The Riyadh–Moscow service underscores Saudia’s growing role as a strategic driver of Saudi Arabia’s aviation ambitions. The airline currently operates a fleet of 149 aircraft, with 116 more on order, serving over 100 destinations across four continents. By 2030, Saudia aims to expand its network to more than 145 international routes.
The launch supports Saudi Vision 2030’s wider objectives — to attract 150 million tourists, transport 330 million travelers, and connect to over 250 global destinations. In the first half of 2025 alone, Saudia transported 17.5 million passengers across 100,000 flights.
The inaugural flight was greeted in Moscow with a traditional water salute, symbolizing a new era of partnership and connectivity between Saudi Arabia and Russia.
