Emirates is preparing for one of its busiest months in recent years, forecasting more than 2.3 million departures and 2.5 million arrivals at Dubai International Airport this December. The airline says peak tourist demand, major local events, and the revised KHDA school calendar will push weekend traffic even higher.
To help passengers navigate the festive rush, Emirates is urging travelers to arrive at least three hours before departure, allow extra time for road congestion and parking, and clear immigration 90 minutes before take-off. Boarding gates will close one hour before departure.
The airline says early preparation will ensure a smoother journey, giving travelers more time to enjoy airport lounges, dining, and other facilities.
Digital tools to ease the journey
Emirates is encouraging passengers to check in via the Emirates app up to 48 hours before their flight, download digital boarding passes, and register for biometric processing. Smart-gate access allows faster movement through check-in, security, and boarding.
Travelers can also skip airport queues entirely by using the Emirates City Check In and Travel Store in DIFC, where they can check in and drop off bags from 24 to 4 hours before departure. Complimentary parking is available, and from December 15 to January 15, passengers using the service will earn 2,500 Skywards Miles each.
A similar 24-hour check-in and baggage drop service is also available at the Emirates City Check In in Ajman.
Extra services and packing reminders
Passengers flying from Dubai may drop off luggage at the airport the day before their flight free of charge. Emirates also offers Home Check In, where staff handle check-in from a traveler’s residence, hotel, or office—complimentary for First Class and Platinum Skywards members.
The airline reminds travelers to follow packing rules: only one power bank under 100Wh is allowed in the cabin, smart bags must have removable batteries, and e-cigarettes must be carried on board.
With millions expected to pass through Dubai International in the coming weeks, Emirates says thoughtful planning and early arrival will be essential for a smooth December travel experience.
