flydubai has made a significant move in its expansion plans by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus for 150 A321neo aircraft. This agreement marks flydubai’s entry into the Airbus customer base and reinforces the airline’s commitment to Dubai’s growth ambitions.
The MoU was signed by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, and Christian Scherer, CEO of Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, at a ceremony held on the second day of the Dubai Airshow 2025. Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, was also present at the event.
This landmark agreement for 150 A321neo aircraft is not just about expanding our fleet; it is aligned with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, said Sheikh Ahmed. “It supports the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and plays a critical role in the success of Dubai World Central’s expansion plans, with the goal of becoming the world’s largest airport.”
The A321neo aircraft will diversify flydubai’s narrow-body fleet and aid in the airline’s long-term growth strategy, enabling the carrier to meet rising demand and expand its network to new destinations. With cutting-edge technology, including new-generation engines and Sharklets, the A321neo is designed for improved fuel efficiency, offering more than 20% savings and reducing CO₂ emissions compared to older aircraft.
We are excited to welcome flydubai as a new Airbus customer, said Christian Scherer. “The A321neo’s range, efficiency, and passenger comfort will be key assets for flydubai’s growth and expansion into new markets.”
This agreement also aligns with Dubai’s broader economic goals, positioning flydubai as a key player in the region’s aviation industry and ensuring its role in the future of global air travel.
