Qatar Airways has launched the ‘Qatar Airways United’ initiative, a powerful youth empowerment program in collaboration with football legend Rio Ferdinand. The initiative is designed to create community-building opportunities for underserved youth, fostering confidence and ambition through the universal power of sport.
The partnership kicked off at the Milan Derby on 23 November 2025, at the iconic San Siro Stadium in Milan, where Ferdinand, joined by Inter Milan Vice President Javier Zanetti, welcomed children with visual disabilities through a special partnership with Real Eyes Sport. These children were given the opportunity to experience the thrill of one of football’s most anticipated matches, forging unforgettable memories and directly engaging with players.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, expressed the airline's commitment to empowering youth globally through sport: “Sport has a unique ability to open doors for young people from every walk of life. We are proud to support initiatives like ‘Qatar Airways United’, which create connections and foster unity. Our goal is to provide the tools that enable young people to pursue greatness in their lives.”
Rio Ferdinand added, “Sport has shaped who I am and given me experiences that have broadened my world. With Qatar Airways United, I aim to help young people build the confidence and ambition to see sport as a passport to new opportunities that will last a lifetime.”
As part of the program, Ferdinand will join children from Education Above All for an exclusive experience at the Formula 1® Qatar Airways Grand Prix from 28-30 November 2025. The children will enjoy behind-the-scenes access during the race weekend and watch the final race day from the grandstand, further expanding their horizons through exposure to elite sporting events.
Looking ahead, the Qatar Airways United initiative will continue to connect young people with world-class sports events, including:
- Paris Saint Germain vs Marseille in Paris, February 2026
- UEFA Champions League Final in Budapest, May 2026
- FIFA World Cup 2026™ Final in New York, July 2026
These events will bring together youth from host cities to experience the global stage of football, while Ferdinand shares motivational stories that highlight the core values of sport. The series will premiere on his official YouTube channel (@rioferdinandpresents) and the Qatar Airways YouTube channel (@qatarairways), with a feature on Oryx One, Qatar Airways' in-flight entertainment platform, to inspire passengers worldwide.
Qatar Airways’ extensive sports portfolio includes partnerships with FIFA, UEFA Champions League, Formula 1®, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, Novak Djokovic, and more, cementing the airline’s role as a leader in connecting global communities through sport.
