Qatar Airways has achieved another global first by becoming the world’s first airline to equip its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft with Starlink, the advanced satellite internet technology developed by SpaceX.
The airline announced the milestone this week, confirming that the move follows the completion of its record-breaking rollout of Starlink across its entire Airbus A350 fleet in December 2025 — accomplished in just eight months.
With this latest installation, Qatar Airways now operates three Boeing 787 Dreamliners offering Starlink’s ultra-high-speed connectivity, bringing its total number of Starlink-enabled widebody aircraft to nearly 120.
This achievement marks the fastest and most extensive Starlink implementation programme in the history of commercial aviation. Within just 14 months, Qatar Airways successfully completed Starlink installations across its Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 fleets before expanding the programme to include its 787 series.
The rapid progress underscores the airline’s leadership in in-flight connectivity and strengthens its position as the global pioneer of Starlink-enabled long-haul and ultra-long-haul operations.
Qatar Airways, named the “World’s Best Airline” by Skytrax for the ninth time in 2025, also became the first carrier to secure Starlink certification for the Boeing 787-8 model — further extending its reputation for technological innovation and passenger service excellence.
Since launching Starlink-powered Wi-Fi in October 2024, more than 11 million passengers have enjoyed free, gate-to-gate internet with speeds reaching up to 500 Mbps — fast enough to support streaming, video calls, and real-time online productivity. In 2025 alone, Starlink connected over 21 million passengers across global airlines, with nearly half of those — roughly 10 million travellers — flying with Qatar Airways.
Currently, Starlink connectivity is available on nearly 120 of Qatar Airways’ widebody jets — including Airbus A350, Boeing 777, and Boeing 787 aircraft — covering more than 58 percent of the airline’s widebody fleet. This accomplishment firmly positions Qatar Airways at the forefront of next-generation inflight connectivity, delivering an experience that rivals or even surpasses home broadband performance.
