Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, has commemorated its enduring air connectivity with Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province at a special event held at King Fahd International Airport (DMM). The celebration, organized in collaboration with Dammam Airports Company (DACO), underscored the airline’s pivotal role in linking Bahrain and Saudi Arabia since its establishment.
The partnership dates back to 1950, when Gulf Air operated its inaugural flight to Dhahran. Since then, the carrier has served over eight million passengers on this key route, reflecting its lasting importance for both business and leisure travel across the region. The strong and consistent demand for this connection highlights its continuing relevance to trade, tourism, and the movement of people between the two Gulf neighbors.
The ceremony at King Fahd International Airport brought together senior executives from Gulf Air, DACO, and airport authorities. The gathering celebrated more than seven decades of cooperation, emphasizing how aviation has strengthened economic, social, and cultural ties between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
Captain Qasim AlBastaki, Gulf Air’s Chief Operating Officer, remarked, “This occasion symbolizes the enduring trust our passengers place in Gulf Air and the strong bilateral relationship between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. The Bahrain–Dammam route remains one of our most important gateways for business and tourism. Our commitment is to continuously enhance the travel experience and further develop this route to meet our passengers’ evolving needs.”
Mohammed bin Ali Al-Hassany, CEO of Dammam Airports Company, stated, “This milestone represents far more than statistics — it embodies decades of partnership, reliability, and shared progress between Dammam Airports and Gulf Air.
The Dammam–Bahrain route continues to play a vital part in boosting regional connectivity, facilitating trade, and supporting tourism. We remain dedicated to enhancing collaboration with Gulf Air to expand air links and deliver a modern, customer-focused airport experience.”
The milestone serves as a testament to the enduring collaboration between Gulf Air and Dammam Airports, reinforcing their shared vision of advancing air connectivity, driving economic development, and fostering deeper integration across the Gulf region.
From its early regional operations in the 1950s to its evolution through the jet age and global expansion during the 1980s, the Bahrain–Dammam route remains a cornerstone of Gulf Air’s heritage and growth story.
Today, the airline continues to uphold its legacy as a modern, forward-looking national carrier dedicated to service excellence, operational efficiency, and elevating passenger satisfaction—cementing its role as a vital contributor to Bahrain’s connectivity and long-term progress.
