Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has announced the launch of the first-ever nonstop service between Abu Dhabi and Calgary, establishing a new strategic air bridge connecting the Middle East and Western Canada. The route, commencing on 3 November 2026, underscores the airline’s ongoing global expansion and supports Abu Dhabi’s long-term vision to boost international trade, tourism, and investment.
The new connection links two dynamic centers renowned for their strengths in energy, innovation, and culture. It will enhance commercial ties and foster new avenues for corporate collaboration, facilitating travel between Abu Dhabi’s fast-developing economy and Calgary’s reputation as a North American hub for energy and technology.
For leisure travelers, the service will offer a gateway to two distinct destinations. Visitors from Canada can experience Abu Dhabi’s cultural attractions, coastline resorts, and year-round sunshine, while UAE-based adventurers gain seamless access to Calgary’s vibrant urban scene and Alberta’s natural wonders, including the iconic Canadian Rockies.
Calgary becomes Etihad’s latest long-haul destination, following recent launches to Luxembourg and Palma de Mallorca. The new route reflects the airline’s strategy to enter markets with clear economic and tourism potential, expanding connectivity for travelers from the UAE and across Etihad’s growing international network.
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said the new service marks a "significant and historic milestone" in the airline’s global growth.
“This is the only nonstop link between the Middle East and Western Canada, creating opportunities for trade, tourism, and investment while connecting two world-class destinations,” Neves said. “It is designed to encourage two-way travel and strengthen the deepening ties between our regions.”
Chris Dinsdale, President and CEO of Calgary Airports, welcomed the partnership, noting the importance of the connection.
“We’re proud to collaborate with Etihad Airways in linking Calgary and Abu Dhabi. This route will expand travel options for business and leisure passengers while opening access to Etihad’s growing network across Africa, Asia, and beyond,” he said.
The service will be operated using Etihad’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, equipped with the airline’s award-winning Business and Economy cabins. The aircraft has been optimized for long-haul comfort and features Etihad’s signature inflight service and hospitality.
The new route also strengthens Etihad’s footprint in North America, complementing its existing flights to Toronto, New York, and Chicago, alongside a new service to Charlotte launching in March 2026.
