Etihad Airways, the UAE's national carrier, today named Captain Khalid Humaid Al Ali as its new Senior Vice President for Aeropolitical, International and Government Affairs.
Captain Al Ali steps into the role reporting to Dr. Nadia Bastaki, the airline's Chief People, Government and Corporate Affairs Officer. He comes to Etihad after more than a decade at the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), where he was Senior Director of the Air Transport Department from 2013 to 2025. There, he shaped the country's air transport policies, handled key negotiations on air service agreements, and advised the federal government on aviation issues.
A UAE national with over 40 years in aviation, Captain Al Ali stands out for blending hands-on piloting experience with top-tier regulatory and diplomatic skills. He's an Airline Transport Pilot License holder with more than 12,000 flight hours under his belt and a track record of leadership roles in the sector.
At Etihad, he'll guide the airline's government relations worldwide, build ties with aviation regulators and officials, and push forward strategies to grow the network and open new routes.
His credentials include bachelor's degrees in aviation science and law, a judicial expertise diploma from Dubai's Judicial Institute, plus qualifications in arbitration and international relations. He's also a recognized aviation legal expert in UAE courts, helping resolve over 50 related cases.
