An Etihad Airways flight from Abu Dhabi to Vienna was diverted to Munich International Airport on Friday, February 20, 2026, after adverse weather conditions prevented it from landing at its intended destination.
Flight EY153 departed from Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport (AUH) bound for Vienna International Airport (VIE), but deteriorating weather — including heavy snowfall over the Austrian capital — forced the aircraft to divert to Munich.
The Abu Dhabi-based carrier confirmed that the diversion was made for safety reasons after landing at Vienna became untenable. Consequently, the return service, flight EY154 from Vienna to Abu Dhabi, has been delayed.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this unexpected event,” Etihad Airways said in a statement. “Our teams are working diligently to assist guests with their onward travel arrangements.”
Etihad advised passengers traveling on the Abu Dhabi–Vienna route to regularly monitor their flight status and ensure their contact details are up to date for real-time notifications.
Vienna International Airport also issued an alert on its website, warning travelers of widespread disruptions caused by heavy snowfall. According to the airport’s flight status board, multiple arrivals and departures have been delayed, cancelled, or diverted.
“Due to heavy snow, flight operations to and from Vienna are currently affected,” Vienna Airport said. “Passengers are advised to verify the status of their flights with their respective airlines and, in the event of cancellations, refrain from coming to the airport.
