Saudia has signed a Special Prorate Agreement (SPA) with Myanmar Airways International, a move aimed at enhancing connectivity between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

Jordan’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has announced that the return of low-cost airlines from July 1 is expected to significantly increase tourist arrivals, particularly from European markets.

The resumption comes after a period of service suspensions caused by regional geopolitical tensions, which led several international carriers to temporarily alter flight paths and redirect traffic to alternative destinations.

“The tourism sector is stabilising following disruptions earlier this year, triggered by the Israeli-Iranian air conflict in February and March,” the ministry said. Authorities have increased their presence at border crossings and key entry points, working closely with relevant agencies to ensure smooth arrivals for visitors.

As part of its efforts, the ministry is promoting the “Ahlan Jordan” digital platform to raise awareness of the country’s tourism offerings and provide essential facilities and guidance to enhance the visitor experience.

Early recovery indicators are emerging, supported by government initiatives and collaborative programmes with hospitality partners aimed at mitigating regional challenges and boosting travel traffic.

From January 1 to April 25, 2026, tourist site visits in Jordan totaled 632,048, with 63 percent by non-Arab visitors, 33 percent by Jordanians, and 4 percent by non-Jordanian Arabs, according to ministry data.

The Central Bank of Jordan reported that tourism income fell 3.8 percent in Q1 2026 to $1.65 billion, compared with $1.72 billion during the same period in 2025. In March, tourism revenue declined 5.4 percent to $410 million, largely due to a 20.3 percent drop in most nationalities, while non-Jordanian Arab visitors recorded a 12.1 percent increase.

Spending by Jordanians and residents abroad also fell 6.3 percent in the first quarter to $459.7 million, contributing to a net tourism income decline of 2.8 percent to $1.19 billion.

The ministry expressed optimism that the return of budget airlines, along with ongoing promotional campaigns, will reinforce Jordan’s tourism sector and attract a wider international audience in the coming months.

Jazeera Airways has announced it will resume direct passenger services to Aleppo as part of the gradual restoration of operations from Terminal 5 at Kuwait International Airport. The new service is scheduled to begin on June 25, with two weekly flights planned between Kuwait and the northern Syrian city.

With this addition, Aleppo becomes the second destination in Syria served by the carrier, following its existing operations to Damascus, where it currently runs two daily flights. The airline described the launch as part of a phased recovery of its route network aimed at rebuilding regional air links and improving access for travellers across its destinations.

The Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Kuwait welcomed the development, noting that the renewed air connection between Kuwait and Aleppo represents a step forward in strengthening bilateral ties. The embassy said improved connectivity would support movement for families, business communities, and broader social exchange, while also highlighting Aleppo’s historical and economic importance.

Jazeera Airways Chief Executive Officer Barathan Pasupathi said the return of services to Aleppo reflects the airline’s focus on restoring essential travel links and reconnecting communities. He added that Syria remains a key market for the carrier and that the expansion now offers passengers two direct routes between Kuwait and Syria, improving convenience and access for travellers.

As part of its broader network rebuilding strategy, the airline said it will continue working to expand international connections from Kuwait while prioritising routes that support family, business, and regional mobility.

Qatar Airways Group has reported a post-tax profit of QAR7.08 billion ($1.94 billion) for the financial year 2025/26, underscoring sustained operational strength across its airline and aviation businesses.

The results come in a year that included significant geopolitical disruptions during the final month, yet the Group maintained stable performance and reinforced its reputation as one of the most resilient operators in global aviation.

Passenger demand remained strong throughout the period, with more than 41.8 million travellers carried across the network. Connectivity was supported through its hub at Hamad International Airport, which continued to serve as a key global transit point.

In cargo operations, Qatar Airways Cargo transported over 1.43 million tonnes of chargeable freight. The division retained its position as the world’s largest international air cargo carrier, holding a 12% global market share.

Operational performance also remained strong. The airline recorded an 86% on-time performance, placing it among the top five most punctual carriers worldwide. It also received the Cirium Platinum Award for Operational Excellence from Cirium, recognising its consistency in operational standards.

Group Chief Executive Officer Hamad Al-Khater said the financial year tested both the organisation’s performance and resilience, noting that the company delivered strong results while also managing operational pressures in the final weeks. He highlighted the contribution of 57,800 employees working across more than 90 countries and pointed to the strength of the Group’s balance sheet and partnerships.

Several major milestones defined the year. The Group signed significant agreements with Boeing and GE Aerospace covering the acquisition and servicing of up to 210 aircraft and 400 engines, marking one of the largest fleet investment commitments in commercial aviation.

Qatar Airways was also named the World’s Best Airline for a ninth time by Skytrax, while Hamad International Airport retained its title as the Best Airport in the Middle East for the 11th consecutive year.

Retail operations at Qatar Duty Free were awarded Best Airport Shopping globally for the third year in a row, reflecting continued investment in passenger experience.

The Group also highlighted its cargo leadership position, alongside ongoing expansion in connectivity and digital services, as key drivers supporting its performance during the financial year.
