Qatar Airways Group has reached a key recovery milestone, restoring its network to 85 percent of pre-crisis levels while introducing two new executive positions designed to support its next phase of expansion and improve customer engagement.
The achievement coincides with the launch of the airline’s summer 2026 schedule, which now includes more than 140 daily flights from Doha to over 160 destinations worldwide. The target had been set earlier this year, when regional disruptions forced widespread network suspensions, with the Group aiming to recover to 85 percent capacity by mid-June.
As part of its long-term strategy, the airline is focusing on three core areas: delivering a premium travel experience across every stage of the passenger journey, growing both passenger and cargo operations through fleet modernization and the next-generation Qsuite, and investing in workforce development and future skills.
To support these goals, Qatar Airways Group has created the roles of Chief Operating Officer and Chief Customer Officer, both of which will report directly to Group Chief Executive Officer Hamad Al Khater.
Abdulla Ali, a Qatari national currently serving as Senior Vice President of Ground Services, has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer. In his new role, he will oversee the Group’s operational activities with an emphasis on safety, accountability and performance. Ali brings extensive experience in airline, airport and network operations and has led several high-performing teams.
Meanwhile, Calum Laming, who holds Irish and British nationality, has been appointed Chief Customer Officer. Laming most recently served in the same position at British Airways from 2022 until earlier this year and has previously held senior customer-focused roles at Etihad Airways and Air New Zealand. He will be responsible for aligning the airline’s brand and customer touchpoints to ensure a consistent and high-quality travel experience.
Commenting on the appointments, Group Chief Executive Officer Hamad Al Khater said the changes are intended to accelerate the company’s progress and reinforce its commitment to excellence and customer-focused decision-making. He added that the appointments would also strengthen the Group’s ability to nurture talent and support the development of its workforce.
Ali and Laming are scheduled to assume their new positions on November 1, 2026.
