Qatar Airways Group has recovered 85% of its global route network compared with pre-crisis levels following the rollout of its summer 2026 schedule, signalling a key step in its post-disruption recovery.
The airline now operates more than 140 daily departures from its Doha hub, connecting to over 160 destinations worldwide. The expansion meets a previously set target to restore capacity by mid-June.
In parallel with the network rebuild, the Group has announced the creation of two senior executive positions designed to enhance operational efficiency and improve customer service as part of its next growth phase. Both roles will report directly to Group Chief Executive Officer Hamad Al-Khater.
The newly established Chief Operating Officer position will consolidate operational oversight under a single leadership framework, with a focus on safety, performance and accountability. The role has been assigned to Abdulla Ali, a Qatari national who previously served as Senior Vice President of Ground Services and brings extensive experience in airline and airport operations.
The second appointment, Chief Customer Officer, will oversee the airline’s brand strategy and end-to-end customer experience to ensure consistent service delivery across all touchpoints. This position has been awarded to Calum Laming, a dual Irish-British executive who previously held the same role at British Airways and has also worked in senior positions at Etihad Airways and Air New Zealand.
The Group said the leadership restructuring supports three core priorities: delivering a premium passenger experience, expanding its passenger and cargo operations through a modernised fleet that includes next-generation Qsuite aircraft, and investing in workforce development and succession planning.
Both executives are scheduled to take up their positions on 1 November 2026, aligning with the airline’s ongoing recovery and long-term expansion strategy.
Commenting on the appointments, Hamad Al-Khater, Group Chief Executive Officer, said the changes are intended to accelerate progress and strengthen organisational focus. He added that the new leadership structure would place greater emphasis on customer experience while also expanding opportunities for talent development within the organisation.
