Neo Space Group (NSG) and Saudia have announced the first line-fit activation of the NSG Skywaves in-flight connectivity system aboard Saudia's inaugural Airbus A321XLR, marking a significant step in integrating Saudi Arabia's aviation and space sectors.
The connectivity platform is powered by NSG Skywaves in partnership with the SES Open Orbits multi-orbit satellite network, combining Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) and Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite technologies to provide low-latency, high-speed internet on key international routes.
According to NSG, recent performance tests recorded connection speeds of up to 200 Mbps per aircraft, allowing passengers to stream content, browse the internet, send messages, and access a range of digital services throughout their journey.
The system has been installed using Airbus' HBCplus line-fit technology, enabling connectivity from the moment the aircraft enters commercial service. The deployment was completed through collaboration between NSG, Saudia, Airbus, SES, and other industry partners.
NSG said the project highlights its expanding role in the global in-flight connectivity market and aligns with its strategy to provide next-generation connectivity solutions for both regional and international airline fleets.
Rossen Dimitrov, Chief Guest Experience Officer at Saudia, said reliable high-speed internet has become an essential part of modern air travel. He noted that the new connectivity system on the Airbus A321XLR allows passengers to remain connected, enjoy uninterrupted entertainment, and access live television and real-time content, creating a more engaging onboard experience.
Tarek El Mitwalli, Executive Vice President of Aviation at Neo Space Group, said the deployment represents the convergence of aviation, space technology, and digital infrastructure. He added that activating NSG Skywaves on Saudia's first Airbus A321XLR demonstrates how national space capabilities can be transformed into operational services that improve airline performance while enhancing passenger connectivity.
