Saudia and Garuda Indonesia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore a future joint business partnership that will strengthen connectivity and broaden travel options across their combined networks.
The agreement builds on the airlines' existing codeshare arrangement and their membership in the SkyTeam alliance. Under the proposed partnership, the carriers will examine opportunities to offer seamless single-ticket travel connecting Garuda Indonesia's network in Indonesia and Australia with Saudia's destinations across the Middle East, Europe and Africa.
The two airlines will also explore cooperation in network planning, flight scheduling, sales and marketing, loyalty programmes, technology and airport services.
A key focus of the partnership will be enhancing travel for Umrah and Hajj pilgrims between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, further strengthening air links between the two countries.
Arved von zur Muehlen, Chief Commercial Officer of Saudia, said the MoU builds on a strong foundation of cooperation and supports the airline's strategy of developing high-value partnerships to improve global connectivity. He said the collaboration is expected to provide passengers with greater flexibility when travelling between Indonesia, Australia and Saudia's international network.
Neil Raymond Mills, Director of Transformation at Garuda Indonesia, said the partnership carries strategic importance by expanding Indonesia's connectivity with the Middle East, Europe and Africa. He added that the agreement will support pilgrimage travel, business links, community mobility and broader economic cooperation between the regions.
