Qatar Airways is set to expand its global network to more than 170 destinations during the 2026-27 winter season, with increased frequencies and resumed services across six continents.

The airline plans to operate more than 186 weekly flights across Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, the Americas and the Middle East, offering passengers additional travel options through its hub at Hamad International Airport.

The expanded schedule will also coincide with the continued rollout of Starlink on Qatar Airways aircraft. Up to 340 Starlink-equipped flights are expected to operate each day, with more than 150 widebody aircraft scheduled to offer high-speed onboard Wi-Fi across the airline’s network.

The winter programme reflects sustained demand across Qatar Airways’ global network and includes several frequency increases and route resumptions.

Africa expansion

Qatar Airways will restore daily services to Zanzibar, Tanzania, from October 25, 2026. The move is expected to support tourism and trade links between the region and international markets.

Services to Seychelles will increase from four to seven flights per week from March 1, 2027.

In South Africa, flights to Johannesburg will rise from 14 to 18 weekly from December 2, 2026, providing greater flexibility for business and leisure travellers.

Growth across the Americas

In North America, Qatar Airways will increase its Montréal service from five to seven weekly flights from October 25, 2026. The change represents a 40 per cent increase in seat capacity and is aimed at meeting growing demand for travel between Canada, the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East.

More flights across Asia Pacific

Asia Pacific will see some of the most significant changes in the winter schedule.

From October 25, Qatar Airways will increase flights to Phuket from 14 to 21 weekly and services to Malé in the Maldives from 12 to 21 weekly.

Flights to Ho Chi Minh City will increase from seven to 11 weekly from November 7, 2026. The airline will also restore four direct weekly services between Doha and Ho Chi Minh City, while continuing its existing Doha-Ho Chi Minh City-Phnom Penh operation.

Kuala Lumpur will receive 18 weekly Qatar Airways flights from October 25, complemented by 14 weekly Doha services operated by oneworld partner Malaysia Airlines.

Qatar Airways will resume daily flights to Canberra via Melbourne from December 9, reconnecting Australia’s capital with its international network. At the same time, Melbourne services will double from seven to 14 weekly.

Virgin Australia will also expand its Doha services in partnership with Qatar Airways. From December 2026, Sydney will increase to 14 weekly flights, Brisbane will restart with three weekly services and Perth will resume with four weekly flights. Combined with Qatar Airways services, this will bring total weekly frequencies to 21 for Sydney, 10 for Brisbane and 11 for Perth.

European network strengthened

In Europe, Qatar Airways will increase its London Heathrow service from 49 to 56 weekly flights from October 25, 2026, representing an 11 per cent increase in capacity. Connectivity between London and Doha will also be supported by codeshare partner British Airways, which operates a daily service.

Frankfurt flights will rise from 18 to 21 weekly from December 7, 2026, adding seven per cent more capacity on the route.

Expansion in the Middle East

Qatar Airways plans to increase its daily flight activity across the Middle East by 10 per cent during the winter season, including the restoration of four routes in Saudi Arabia.

Services to Qassim will resume on October 25, followed by Taif on October 31, Yanbu on January 2, 2027, and Tabuk on January 3, 2027.

Each of the four destinations will receive two weekly flights. The changes will take Qatar Airways’ Saudi Arabian operations to more than 155 weekly flights, an increase of over 10 per cent compared with the summer schedule.

The expansion will also increase the airline’s Saudi network to 12 destinations, reinforcing its focus on the Kingdom and its contribution to regional connectivity and economic activity.

Qatar Airways expects to operate nearly 1,800 weekly frequencies during December 2026 as it enters the winter season with an expanded global network.

Bookings are available through Qatar Airways’ website and mobile app. Privilege Club members can access Starlink connectivity on equipped flights and earn or redeem Avios for benefits including upgrades, shopping and dining at Qatar Duty Free and additional baggage.

KLM is preparing to cancel selected flights over the coming months as delays in aircraft maintenance and repairs leave more aircraft unavailable than anticipated.

The cancellations will run from 26 October 2026 until early March 2027. The Dutch airline aims to keep additional long-haul aircraft available as reserves to reduce last-minute schedule changes and improve operational reliability.

A KLM spokesperson told Dutch broadcaster NOS that the aircraft shortage has been caused by unplanned maintenance requirements, damage repairs and scheduled maintenance work taking longer than expected. Delays in spare-parts deliveries have also contributed to the situation.

In some cases, KLM has been operating services with aircraft different from those originally scheduled.

The airline has not yet disclosed the number of flights that will be cancelled or identified the affected destinations.

KLM said it would select flights for cancellation based on minimising the impact on passengers and providing opportunities for rebooking. The approach is intended to deliver a more reliable schedule throughout the winter period.

Turkish Airlines carried 9 million passengers in September 2026, achieving an overall passenger load factor of 86.8%, according to its latest traffic figures.

The airline reported an international load factor of 86.6%, while domestic services recorded a higher rate of 88.2%.

Available seat kilometres (ASK), a measure of passenger capacity, rose 2.5% year-on-year to 24.6 billion in September, compared with 24 billion during the same month in 2025.

Cargo operations also posted significant growth. Combined cargo and mail volumes increased by 13% year-on-year to 205,700 tonnes during the month.

For the first nine months of 2026, Turkish Airlines transported 73 million passengers, marking a 5.2% increase from the corresponding period last year.

The airline's overall load factor reached 85% during the January-September period. International services recorded an 84.8% load factor, while domestic operations achieved 86.7%.

Passenger capacity, measured in ASK, expanded by 4.4% to 212.2 billion, up from 203.3 billion in the first nine months of 2025.

Cargo and mail traffic continued to grow, rising 10.6% year-on-year to 1.8 million tonnes, compared with 1.6 million tonnes during the same period a year earlier.

By the end of September 2026, Turkish Airlines operated a fleet of 567 aircraft.

The reported traffic figures are consolidated and cover operations under both the Turkish Airlines main brand and its subsidiary AJet.

Dubai-based airline flydubai has cancelled flights to Riyadh and Yanbu until October 10, while services to Abha will remain suspended until October 11 as regional tensions continue to disrupt air travel in Saudi Arabia.

A flydubai spokesperson confirmed the cancellations, saying the airline was closely monitoring developments and coordinating with relevant authorities. The carrier said passengers would receive updates on schedule changes through its official communication channels.

The suspensions follow attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Thursday. Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said on Friday that three Saudi nationals had been killed and several others injured in two separate attacks.

According to the authority, the first attack targeted airport facilities, while the second struck an aircraft operated by Saudia. Yemen’s Houthi movement claimed responsibility for the attacks. Airport operations subsequently resumed.
