Ibom Air Carries 5 Million Passengers After 65,000 Flights in Seven Years

Nigeria’s Akwa Ibom State-owned airline, Ibom Air, has reached the five-million-passenger mark after operating more than 65,787 scheduled flights since its launch.

The milestone was recorded on September 25, coinciding with celebrations marking the 39th anniversary of the creation of Akwa Ibom State.

Established as a strategic investment by the state government, Ibom Air was created to strengthen air connectivity, support economic activity and demonstrate Akwa Ibom’s ability to develop and operate a world-class aviation institution.

Over seven years of operations, the airline has expanded its fleet to 10 aircraft and now serves seven domestic destinations and one regional destination. Its network supports business travel, tourism, trade and investment across the region.

Ibom Air said its development has also created opportunities for human-capital growth in Akwa Ibom. Hundreds of state indigenes work across areas including leadership, flight operations, engineering, customer service, finance and other technical and administrative roles.

The airline said training initiatives supported by the state government and Ibom Air have also enabled young professionals from Akwa Ibom to undertake specialised aviation training in Nigeria, Ethiopia and France.

According to Ibom Air, its economic impact extends beyond its direct operations, with its activities and supply-chain engagements contributing more than N60 billion to the local economy and supporting thousands of indirect jobs.

The airline described its growth as part of Akwa Ibom’s wider investment in infrastructure, healthcare, education, aviation, tourism and other sectors.

“As Akwa Ibom celebrates 39 years of achievement, Ibom Air is proud to be part of the State’s story of growth, empowerment and transformation,” the airline said.

Ibom Air reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Governor Pastor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda through operational improvements, stronger connectivity, job creation and continued investment in human capital.

KLM Cuts Winter Flights as Maintenance Delays Ground Aircraft

KLM Cuts Winter Flights as Maintenance Delays Ground Aircraft

KLM is preparing to cancel selected flights over the coming months as delays in aircraft maintenance and repairs leave more aircraft unavailable than anticipated.

The cancellations will run from 26 October 2026 until early March 2027. The Dutch airline aims to keep additional long-haul aircraft available as reserves to reduce last-minute schedule changes and improve operational reliability.

A KLM spokesperson told Dutch broadcaster NOS that the aircraft shortage has been caused by unplanned maintenance requirements, damage repairs and scheduled maintenance work taking longer than expected. Delays in spare-parts deliveries have also contributed to the situation.

In some cases, KLM has been operating services with aircraft different from those originally scheduled.

The airline has not yet disclosed the number of flights that will be cancelled or identified the affected destinations.

KLM said it would select flights for cancellation based on minimising the impact on passengers and providing opportunities for rebooking. The approach is intended to deliver a more reliable schedule throughout the winter period.

flydubai Suspends Flights to Three Saudi Cities After Deadly Airport Attacks

Dubai-based airline flydubai has cancelled flights to Riyadh and Yanbu until October 10, while services to Abha will remain suspended until October 11 as regional tensions continue to disrupt air travel in Saudi Arabia.

A flydubai spokesperson confirmed the cancellations, saying the airline was closely monitoring developments and coordinating with relevant authorities. The carrier said passengers would receive updates on schedule changes through its official communication channels.

The suspensions follow attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Thursday. Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said on Friday that three Saudi nationals had been killed and several others injured in two separate attacks.

According to the authority, the first attack targeted airport facilities, while the second struck an aircraft operated by Saudia. Yemen’s Houthi movement claimed responsibility for the attacks. Airport operations subsequently resumed.

flydubai has advised affected passengers to visit the Manage Booking section of its official website, flydubai.com, to review available refund and rebooking options. Customers who purchased tickets through travel agents have been advised to contact their agents directly.

The airline apologised for the disruption and said it would continue to communicate relevant updates to passengers as the situation develops.
