Riyadh Air has unveiled the first images of its inaugural Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner featuring a distinctive indigo livery, after the aircraft emerged from Boeing’s paint facility in Charleston, South Carolina, on October 4.
The new indigo-and-lavender design takes inspiration from the colours of spring desert flowers and the artistic character of Arabic calligraphy. It complements the airline’s signature pearlescent white livery.
Riyadh Air expects approximately one in every 10 aircraft in its fleet to carry the indigo design, creating another distinctive element of the airline’s visual identity as it expands its operations.
The aircraft is expected to be delivered in the near future and will subsequently enter service at one of the 15 international airports currently served by the airline.
“Seeing our first Indigo aircraft emerge from the paint shop is a proud moment for Riyadh Air,” Chief Executive Officer Tony Douglas said, according to the airline’s website.
Douglas said the design was inspired by Saudi Arabia’s spring desert blooms and Arabic calligraphy, adding that the new livery would give the airline a distinctive presence at airports around the world.
He added that the indigo scheme, together with Riyadh Air’s pearlescent livery, reflects what he described as a modern and confident Saudi identity.
The unveiling comes as Riyadh Air marks another stage in its rapid expansion, having grown to 10 aircraft and 15 destinations in less than four months.
